VFW Commander Ben Keefe Obituary, Death: McHenry City in Illinois Resident Ben Keefe Passed Away

Ben Keefe, a revered resident of McHenry City, Illinois, and a dedicated VFW Commander, passed away on September 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership, and community spirit. Ben was 68 years old. 

His unexpected passing has brought great sadness to the McHenry community, where he was known and loved for his unwavering commitment to veterans and his tireless work to improve the lives of others.

Born and raised in McHenry City, Ben Keefe was a proud son of Illinois. After graduating from high school, Ben enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with honor and distinction for over 20 years. 

His military career was marked by bravery, leadership, and a deep sense of duty to his country. Ben completed multiple tours overseas, earning numerous commendations and medals for his service.

Upon retiring from the Army, Ben returned to McHenry City and quickly became an active member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4600. 

His passion for helping fellow veterans was evident in everything he did. Over the years, he held various leadership positions within the post, ultimately becoming the VFW Commander. 

In this role, Ben was a steadfast advocate for veterans' rights, working diligently to ensure they received the support and recognition they deserved. 

He organized countless events, fundraisers, and community outreach programs to benefit veterans and their families.

Beyond his service with the VFW, Ben was deeply involved in the McHenry community. He volunteered at local schools, coached youth sports, and was a frequent participant in community events and parades. 

His warm smile, generous spirit, and willingness to help others endeared him to everyone he met.

Ben is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Keefe, his two children, Sarah and Michael, and his five grandchildren, whom he adored. 

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family above all else. His love for them was evident in every aspect of his life.

The McHenry City community mourns the loss of a true hero and friend. Ben Keefe will be remembered for his selfless service, his dedication to his country and community, and his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. 

A memorial service to honor Ben's life and service will be held at VFW Post 4600, where the community he served so faithfully will gather to pay their respects and celebrate his extraordinary life.
